Today nearly every undergraduate mathematics program requires at least one semester of Real Analysis. Although Analysis was conceived in the 17th century during the Scienti?c Revolution, it has taken nearly two hundred years to establish its theoretical basis. In doing so, we hope that learning analysis becomes less taxing and thereby more satisfying.. Oscar Wilde, “The Critic as Artist,” 1890. Often, students consider this course to be the most challenging or even intimidating of all their mathematics major requirements. Kepler, Galileo, Descartes, Fermat, Newton and Leibniz were among those who contributed to its genesis. The primary goal of this book is to alleviate those concerns by systematically solving the problems related to the core concepts of most analysis courses. Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing worth knowing can be taught. This book aims to give independent students the opportunity to discover Real Analysis by themselves through problem solving. However, Real Analysis can be discoveredIt is intended to build a bridge between ordinary high school or undergraduate exercises and more difficult and abstract concepts or problems. The book is so delightfully written that anyone who simply likes working on challenging problems could read it independently. … a welcome resource for organizing their activities at a good level.” (Viceniu D. From the reviews:“Spread out over 11 chapters, this is a collection of 319 problems in what used to be called Advanced Calculus. … recommends this book to all students curious about elementary real analysis and how to learn it through solving problems. Rdulescu, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. … However, kept on a course reserve shelf of an academic library, the book under review might entice and benefit the more dedicated student. It certainly merits the attention of instructors of elementary analysis.” (If you smile for a while, even if you're sad, you'll start to feel a bit better." And that's just the beginning. I think the proofs and explanations are pretty clear, and the book is very readable. Well worth the read.. David G. If you're just a casual follow of railroads, I fear this book won't help bring the J's glory to full light.I'm sure the authors put their all into this book, so I don't want to disparage them, but this book just doesn't feel complete and I can't help thinking it was on account of a lack of cheap or free pictures.. They tell of the twists and turns that the developing fetus can take where perhaps the brain and the body don't quite follow the same path, or perhaps the body only only strolls along a path, not quite sure if it wants this one or that one. I don't fault the author so much for this (everyone has a different experience, and it is ultimately absurd for anyone to think that everyone is cookie cutter), but this is an important set of topics to discuss with your son - read the whole book and tailor appropriately, IMHO.. Perusing the book for other national parks that we've been to, I had several "oh shoot" moments when I read about park features we had missed. The book's format for most parks begins with some brief backgroun
