She and her friend Simca take some classes and do a lot of experimentation and decide to pursue a future of cooking together. From School Library Journal K-Gr 2—This is the story of a girl named Julia who falls in love with French food at a young age (any resemblance to the real Julia Child is purely coincidental). Because life "was filled with far too many grown-ups who did not know how to have a marvelous time," they are determined to follow their passion and to maintain their childlike joie de vivre. When thinking of what the target audience of this book probably is, I realize that I can't imagine an age past 10 that I would not immensely enjoy this novel. The only possible faults with this book that I can come up with are that it follows a very overdone fantasy trope (a gifted young boy's coming-of-age in an academy) and that the next books in the series are not out yet. Keep a dictionary close by. If you want a self study book (or a light reference), I would recommend using David J. The reader ages with the main character.
